Cricket World Cup - 2007

Recommended Posts

I hope you all enjoy this while you can, because only a complete fool would write off Australia. It's awfully hard to be brilliant all of the time you know. But then come to think of it the crickets sides that you all support that have never really been brilliant at all in the first place for the last 15 or so years so you really would not know, would you.

Lap it up while you can, because deep down inside you know that the time you have to bash Australia will be very short lived my friends.

 Here's to Australia winning yet another World Cup, Cheers :D

i know australia have probably the best chance to win even due to this loss. so thus kicking them in the balls when they are down is not a smart thing but when they lose a match in wc then they should be kicked like ****hes

It only takes afew players to play well for Australia to do well. In 1999 it was essentially Steve Waugh and Glenn McGrath vs The Rest of the World and even with only 2 players in great form we still managed to win.

We are not writing those losers off (may they sink like a stone :clap3: ). But you have to admit that this is utterly hilarious after the way the English team was treated there this year, and the trash incessantly published in the Australian mainstream media.

The problem lies in australia's bowling. They are not able to defend 350+ scores too. Even with Lee :( Mcgrath is getting old, he is not that fast and accurate which he used to be 4 years ago.

New Zealand beat Australia again with 3 balls remaining

New Zealand 9/350 def Australia 5/346

Might put some money on the Kiwis for the WC they're playing really well...

Aussie, what are their odds ?

The Kiwi's have moved into equal third favorites alongside West Indies paying $8.00

oh ok thanks.

Scotland fancies its chances

THE Australian coach of Scotland's World Cup team is backing his part-timers to add to the reigning champion's limited-overs nightmare with victory in Group A in the Caribbean.

Australia has lost its past matches, against England and New Zealand, and was unable to prevent the Black Caps achieving two of the biggest limited-overs run chases of all time in failing to defend 336 in Auckland on Sunday and 346 in Hamilton on Tuesday.

This has bolstered Scotland coach Peter Drinnen's belief that his adopted team can produce what would be an even bigger upset than Bangladesh's stunning defeat of Australia in Cardiff two years ago when he goes up against Ricky Ponting's men in their pool match in St Kitts on March 14.

Drinnen is looking after a largely amateur side and will play in Group A with South Africa, the new world No.1 since Australia's awful run, and The Netherlands.

"If we can take early wickets, which I'm sure we can with the way we've been bowling, we might set a few nerves jangling and cause the likes of Australia and South Africa a few problems," he said,

The 39-year-old Queenslander, who 13 months ago replaced former Warwickshire batsman Andy Moles as Scotland coach, added: "Teams are going out and giving it the gun really early in their innings and setting targets of 300.

"But you run the risk of losing early wickets. In the one-day game anything can happen and if we get it together we are going to be very dangerous even against Australia. We have a game plan and hopefully we can stick to it."

He also insisted his side wouldn't freeze come its clashes with Australia, 1/500 to win with some London bookmakers before its astonishing five-wicket loss to Bangladesh, and South Africa.

"You hear a lot about our amateur status but that doesn't wash with me or the players," Drinnen said.

"The players set themselves professional standards and if they stick to them they are going to have a good tournament.

"We don't fear anyone at this World Cup. The last month's fixtures in one-day cricket all over the world have been interesting to say the least and we won't be losing any sleep over playing the world champions.

"We aren't going to the Caribbean to play exhibition cricket. Yes we will be massive underdogs in the most difficult group, but I'm confident we will justify our place with the elite and who knows what we could do?

"Nobody is getting carried away here and we know we've got jobs to do and we will be giving it everything to cause a shock."

Scotland's 15-man squad includes seam bowling all rounder Dougie Brown, who played nine limited-overs internationals for England, and his Warwickshire teammate Navdeep Poonia.

Pace bowler John Blain and Brown's fellow all rounder Gavin Hamilton are two other Scotland players with County Championship experience.

The squad is due to fly out to Barbados on Monday.

Keep telling yourself that you have a chance Scotland

Jokers :lol::lol:

On their day Scotland can beat Australia as they have come very close before. The last thing i want is the Australian team to do is expect victory and not try as hard as they could.

On their day any team can beat any champion side yes, but the chance of this happening are very very slim. Australia will be heading into the game against Scotland wanting to make a very big statement.

You really have a soft spot for the Scots hey ykick :P

Actually its more of a soft spot for the underdogs.

It's an Australian tradition going for the underdogs and I do like go for them, but not when a World Cup campaign is around the corner.

It's time to talk tough!!! :D

Its a pain always going for the underdogs as that used to involve supporting Minardi and currently involves supporting the Carlton Blues and the South Sydney Rabbitohs. You are right though that Australia does come first.

well i guess they will as they dont have that fire powers as of now in their bowling. and i can not see bracken/lee etc to run through a side in and ODI. they simply can not defend scores.

The first set of matches for each of the established teams is just match practice.

Noone ever predicted Kenya reaching the semis in SA. Nothing is written in stone, many a slip and so on old chap......

Strange things have happened and will happen

I think Australia is going to be in some trouble this WC, psychologically they must be hurting, despite brave stands - something that teams like England, NZ and SA are going to be exploiting to the max. They may be favourites, but that doesn't mean much on the day....

NZ seem to be having a hot run, SA seems to be in good nick, WI have an unpredictably good team, India shows occasional flashes in the pan, SL is in a transition period..all in all, hope this is an exciting WC

Brett Lee is out of the World Cup.

Lee reportedly gone for Cup

BRETT Lee is has reportedly ruled himself out of Australia's World Cup campaign, calling Cricket Australia with the devastating news this morning.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that Lee spoke to CA chief James Sutherland having seen a specialist this morning in Sydney.

Lee wrenched and tore his left ankle ligaments last week during fielding practice in Wellington ahead of the first Chappell-Hadlee match.

Australia lost the series 3-0, with its bowling attack largely blamed having conceded the two highest runs chases in the history of the fixture in games two and three at Auckland and Hamilton respectively.

The Telegraph also reported that Australia's selectors would meet today to discuss a replacement for Lee, and appear certain to call his New South Wales teammate Stuart Clark into the 15-man squad to travel to the Caribbean next week.

Staff at CA were not available for comment when FOXSPORTS.com.au tried to make contact to confirm the story.

Adding to the confusion, The Sydney Morning Herald reported yesterday that Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of Australia's national selection panel, was keen to give Lee until next week to prove he could play some part in the World Cup, which starts for Australia on March 14.

Lee is the first big-name player to withdraw from Australia's World Cup squad.

Andrew Symonds, Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke and captain Ricky Ponting will all travel to the Caribbean nursing ailments, Symonds the worst of them as he recovers from surgery to re-attach his right biceps to his shoulder bone.

Hayden has a fractured big right toe, Clarke hip complaints and Ponting a back problem that has affected him since midway through the Ashes series against England, which Australia won 5-0.
