Tension Rising At Mclaren!

Recommended Posts

After Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton embraced in Malaysia's parc ferme, McLaren chiefs said they were not worried that the relationship could turn sour as the 2007 season grinds on.

But there is already tension within the silver-lined garage walls, as reports in the Spanish press reveal.

According to one source, Alonso's manager Luis Garcia-Abbot became so frustrated with McLaren team members' one-sided enthusiasm for rookie Lewis Hamilton in Australia that he opted to watch qualifying for the Malaysian GP from the tranquillity of the Renault pits.

To the 'Diario As' newspaper, McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh insisted that championship leader Alonso, also the reigning world champion, should not become the forgotten man.

"It is right to admire what Lewis is doing but Fernando is a great world champion and someone who is making an enormous contribution to our team," he said.

'As' also pointed out that, although Hamilton achieved the best overall lap on Sunday, no fewer than 16 of the 20 fastest laps of the Malaysian grand prix belonged to Alonso.

Oh Dear! Spanish media creating unneccesary commotion again................let Lewis and his team enjoy their success together.......it's only normal because Lewis has been around the team since the past ten years or so and they're all english and the last time they won with a near englishman was David.............Alonso's arrival has no doubt turn around the Mclaren team and i think the supporters of the team around the world have no doubt Alonso is'nt cast aside............Look how invigorated the whole team are!

Nothing more that the Spanish media making trouble again.... Mclaren must be licking their lips at the prospect of having possibly the 2 best formula 1 drivers in the same team!

Been there, done that. Prost/Senna back in the late 80's. Let's hope this time things go more smoothly.

Pat symonds mentioned after the Australian GP that FA takes a lot of pride in being the faster of his team mates....and he will have a great challenge to handle a team mate who gets a lot more attention than himself.... and he also suggested that MM might have used team orders to get FA ahead of Hamilton.

If FA has a couple of retirements in the next few races and Hamilton wins in his absence....it will be interesting to see the team's loyalty shift and FA calling out people just like he did last year after Italy.

It's quite possible that Hamilton's success may make Alonso insecure & hopefully lead to friction....

Or the pair of them will work as a team and demoralise raikkonen :)
