One Engine Four Races????

Recommended Posts

Sep.25 (GMM) Bernie Ecclestone has criticised fellow F1 powerbroker Max Mosley's plans to introduce hybrid engines to formula one in 2010.

The specialist German magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports on Tuesday that a deal has now been struck between the FIA president and the carmakers, who are unhappy with the current 'engine freeze' formula.

The new formula will reportedly involve 675 horse power V8 engines featuring an energy-recovery system that reuses energy stored under braking in the form of a c#ckpit-mounted 'boost button'.

Mosley reportedly also wants to extend the current one-engine-per-two-races engine formula to four races, in exchange for allowing the carmakers to freely introduce an engine development step once per season.

The small teams will benefit from the agreement by receiving guaranteed customer engine supplies for no more than 10m euros a year.

F1 chief executive Ecclestone, however, is quoted as objecting to the idea of hybrid engines for grand prix racing.

"I believe we are already green enough," the 76-year-old said, adding that he also doubts that hybrids "will make the manufacturers happy".

Is he mad? I personally would NOT like to see this happen as I feel that we would see even less racing.

As it is a driver "looks after" their engine over the second race weekend and won't always push full.

thought??

I am with Bernie on this i hate to say?

Yes it would lead to less racing... But Bernie from what i read is on Max's side, Both want the engine to last for 4 races...

Soon they will reach a point 1 race per year...

Do i like the idea of anything other than one engine for one weekend? No, i do not. But it would be selfish if i were to vote this. The sensible thing to do is put aside what we want and think about what is best. I don't have long hair, wear sandals and march outside nuclear plants. I sometimes throw away stuff that should be recycled and i drive when i could walk. But i'll say this much; if we go on burying our heads this whole sh!t hole is gonna go up in smoke and my grand children (if i have some) will suffer.

Making small sacrifices for the greater good is a pain in the arse but it needs to be done, in my view.

Oh alright, I'll save the planet and let Mosley have his four race engine rule - as long as he stops that fuel burn bollocks! (A bit of actual racing wouldn't go a miss either)

P.S I don't have long hair or wear sandles either, I used to have a religious friend who did though, but that's all in the past.

The fuel burn has been cancelled for the 2008 season

Good to know, the question is, what stupid rule will Mosley come up with to replace it? :eusa_think:

 Excellent!

Isn't Ralf trying to get a drive in that series?

Yeah, but so far even all those teams told him no. Right now he's looking at a Competitive Bird Watching Team.

In all seriousness though, if you had to bring in regulations that were eco-friendly in order to demonstrate to the wider world your green credentials, what would you do?

In the wise words of a drunk lady making a phone call to the US TV show Wind Tunnel:

"Once I saws Brian France wearin' hisself one of them there green t-shirts, and I is a thinkin' that is the only green I wanna sees in this here racin'"

Green racing could be good. It could lead to innovation that could make the sport more interesting (like ALMS), or it could lead to tighter rules that could make the sport more interesting (like CCWS). Hell, change is good, and change si what F1 needs, so any change works for me.

Yeah, what Eric said basically!

The idea of turning sport car/endurance racing into sprint racing was a disaster.

So what makes Mosley think that now turning a sprint race into an endurance race would fair better.

Mosley's a retard.

I don't think the four engine rule is going to work as its simply too much. Imagine running four races including monza and spa back to back. Insane. The rev limits will be no where near 19000 if thats the case

diesel - but that would be evil

anyway I'd allow some engine developments like cylinder heads with no valves or those with no camshafts.

To be honest I really don't know why they wanna make f1 more green. It won't save the planet but certainly it'll kill the last bits of oldschool racing in it.

Fuel cells maybe. It's wrong to say "you will do it this way" as the FIA have done. It should be "do whatever you like to achieve these results". The notion of being green is fine as long as you don't go hurtling off down a blind alley. Which is entirely possible the way things are going. We should be looking at alternatives to the internal combustion engine. If you miss the noise we'll put speakers on the cars. We should be looking at materials and production techniques. Let the engineers and designers have a free hand. That way you'll come up with many ways of skinning the cat.

:clap3::clap3::clap3: Well said.

Engineers will find a way given a chance. I just feel that they should be given certain rules to work within but not make stupid ones like one engine four races- it will either have most cars taking engine changes before they are supposed to with penalty / less cars finishing races / otherwise sat and sun engines should be different if they want to try that ?
