What kind of a deterrent is that? Indian chicks that bad? :P

Nope. He said he will help the team after it's not mathematically possible. If you had seen the Brazil Press conference(the race he gave to Kimi) he said "if it helps the team, i am happy" like 10 times in his speech....

Yes i believe your right; Samsung help the record for a year, and then lost it...

You missed the part where Massa said he would help, then he wouldn't, oh and then when he said he would again. That's hardly the behavior of someone really wanting to help. I agree with Elizabeth. His contract or some other factor was involved here.

Coming to massa,I still wonder how come his contract was extended even after JT was to be dropped from the team boss position. They always had better options than Massa to drive for Ferrari.I think there ie more to it that meets the eye. :eusa_think:

I think exactly...Otherwise no one would back down from winning your home race for a consective time...

He wanted to help but not give up on his home win; any other race, i don't think he would mind...

Massa as other people have said before has been Ferrari's prodigy, they got him the seat in Sauber, so i don't think its all due to Todt's son connection that he retains his drive...

Yeah.he was ferrari's prodigy. But was it a sufficient reason to extend his contract and not to sign alonso or may be Nico after 2008?I guess no.Even if he stays in Ferrai may would hardly believe that he can ever be a serious threat to the chamipnships.I know he is a fast driver and performs well when he is own his own.But to become a champion a driver needs to perform under adverse conditions also. And so far Massa has failed to prove it.I believe in Ferrari also he will remain as a No2 driver to support Kimi.He may be given an equal status at the start but later if kimi does well then he would have to perform the roll of a no2 driver.

Massa is the Ferrari chimp, as was Ruben and Eddie before him. Hired to be No.2 (a popular euphemism of the solid item you drop in a toilet.) I don

Says who? Why even bother to say anything as stupid as that? All you know about F1 is what you hear in your schoolyard huh?

sorry mate, i left school many years ago

I am correct in what I say - Massa was hired because of his 2nd tier skills. Someone who knew he would never get a drive in a car as good as the Ferrari on merit, rather the lack of it and the inability to challenge the supremacy of Schu.

As was Barichello and Irvine before him

That's good!

No you are not correct! Massa has the potential to be champion but perhaps is a bit Latin American mentally and has ups and downs sometimes. He is not No 2 stuff though. If all is well he can be up ther with the rest. He has already proven that.

Massa isn't championship material. He just isn't. When he's on pole though he's one of the best on the grid, any other time and he's, less great shall we say...

When? He was leading Kimi for more than half the season.....and the fact about equal status in start has always been Ferrari policy...

I wouldn't count him out yet. before Ferrari, ppl said he was very eratic and can't win a race, now they saw he can't win a race unless from pole. when he does that ppl will say he can't win in wet(where he did show a good performence in Fuji), so it goes on and on.

You can keep looking at the faults in a driver or finally see the best of him..

And that is what Ferrari has done. They know he can improve and thus they keep him.

I just don't think he is as complete as many other drivers, in terms of racecraft. He is obviously one of the fastest drivers on the grid though, and he is consistant.

He is also new to "frontrunning" since only these last two seasons he got the chance to be competitive. Apart from LH the others are far more experienced in fighting for the top! I believe next year he 'll be even better!

Maybe, but I don't think he will be champion next year, honestly I just don't think he'll ever be a champion - I trust my instinct on that. Let's see how he compares to KR next season...(who will also improve).

I have to agree with rainmaster. Massa is good up front. We can all agree on that. However his complete racecraft is lacking. His tangle with Kubica was pretty amazing but it was still sloppy.

I read Massa's comments on driving with no TC. He's going to find it very hard next year. Kimi is now very settled in the team, and is more used to the Bridgestones. He's also raced without TC. So at this point, Massa's best chance of a WDC was this year. Now that Kimi is the champ, and clearly loved and comfortable in his new team, Massa is going to have to do a lot more than just grab a pole & win here and there.

Actually until this year I would totally agree. I also have that feeling he may never get to be the champion, but as this year demonstrated, everything is possible! He is able to be there and do it! Not in a Schumi-way, which KR is more able to do, but he might find his way one way or the other! He can only be more determined next year! I wouldn't bet on him to win the championship right now, but I wouldn't write him off!

OK sure, I won't write him off, I mean his chances look better than Alonso's right now!

 I don't think he deserves his Ferrari ride. He's improving, I admit, but since when was the WCC-winning team in F1 the place to improve your skills? He's just a number two.

He had s##t luck last year, and got robbed of two wins by team orders.

No, he isn't the best on the grid, but he's better than he gets credit for.

He definately doesn't get the credit he deserves. He was very unlucky this year, and he proved on many occasions that he was faster than raikkonen. Last year he even outpaced schumacher a few times... When he's in the zone he is unstoppable, and with a bit more luck I think he could challenge for world championships. Having said that though, i'm not so sure how he will go without TC. I think he will eventually get the hang of it, like most of the drivers

I hate to take a dig at Felipe who's driven a very strong season but next year I can't see him doing as well. First, Kimi has settled in and will likely outpace him much more frequently than through 07 as a whole, and that's without the expected confidence boost that taking that elusive title may give him. Second, Felipe, as many had predicted for a while now, is going to struggle without TC. It's not just a matter of never having driven without it in F1 either, he's just not got great throttle control which can be seen from many of his wet performances. The fact he's already making a stink about TC shows he's not a going to be a happy man, at least certainly not for the first half of 07 even if he manages to adapt. Also I don't exactly think he's 'unstoppable' when he's on it, at least as far as it implies he's the fastest man out there when he's hooked up.

Also, I'm really not sure where this idea that Felipe has handed over two races to Kimi this season has come from.

I don't think anyone is saying that Massa isn't a good driver, certainly one of the best on the grid, just that it's unlikely that he'll be champion and he lacks that special edge that makes you one of the very best of your generation. He just isn't quite there if you compare him with Hamilton, Alonso or Raikkonen - saying that really isn't an insult. 2007 was his best championship chance, now Kimi has renewed 'love' for F1 and confidence with the tyres/car/team Massa will struggle next year, add to that the lack of tc and it doesn't look good for him. In 2007 he had the benefit of Kimi doing a lot of adaptation, next year he can expect to see the Kimi we saw in the last half of 2007 straightaway.

I think he gets the credit he deserves, that is the credit that a race winner and strong No.2 deserves.
