Official Pre-season Testing Thread

Recommended Posts

It seems like Red Bull has decided to leave testing early, they are currently packing up and shipping out.

Thats never a good sign with only 15 laps done, why would they even bother coming

Lewis' pace or lack of pace is a concern

Is he sanbagging or is it a case that the lack of driver aids are affecting his performance more than others.

:confused2:

Couple of thoughts on this....

His style last season was to pitch the car at the corner (the tighter ones anyway) to give very slight oversteer before the apex, perhaps this was 'assisted' by the electronics helping to keep the rears from locking up.

Sooo, maybe he's still adjusting to how the lack of assistance affects this style. I'd guess that (cheating/bending the traction control aside!) the new set-up favours tidying it all up a wee bit before the apex then being early and smooth on the power for exit.

By the time the first flag drops they'll all have adjusted to having their stabilisers taken off ;)

Second red flag of the day, it was caused by Piqeut who spun out on turn 2. Everyone is now in the pitboxes, and Timo Glock's car are getting fixed by the engineers.

There was an article in autosport that said Lewis had some problems with the engine braking. However, I think Lewis is just on a different program from Heikki, concentrating more on long runs.

Hi Boudica!

Any info on the Hamilton incident in the afternoon?

He was just pushing to far, it seems like he didn't brake in time he went straight on at turn four.

Visibly there wasn't any damage to the car, but I don't think he went out on track again.

Some news from Motorsport Aktuell about the Valencia test:

- Heikkis time (1.11:000 min) was set with less than 20 kg fuel (20 kg is a bit more than a qualifying fuel load)

- 10kg = 0,28 sec in Valencia

- fuel corrected Ferrari was again "superior" as they never drove with less than 30 kg fuel.

- the strengths of the Ferrari on the long runs are their (braking) stability and a good acceleration as soon as the car is in the right direction after the corner.

- through the corner (apex) the Mclaren is better as the car is steering more directly compared to the Ferrari and the F2008 has noticeable more understeering.

- the different fuel loads mean that Mclaren is ahead of Ferrari with their genaral understanding of their car, as every team has to give their drivers a possibility to test the car under the "extreme" conditions of qualifiying (Ferrari does still basic work)

- Hamilton still struggles at the corner entrance

- Williams and Renault are more or less on the same level, but Williams did more longer runs last week in comparison to Renault (but nonetheless both often used a smaller fuel load)

- Rosberg had a 25 lap long run with a time of 1.12:7 at the end which was very impressive.

- Sam Michael (Williams) : "On the long run we we
