Medilloni 6 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Just a water for me, thanks all the same Why do good dreams, like that, always end just before the best bit and if you go back asleep you can never pick up where you left off. Whereas nightmares, on the other hand............. Good dreams like that usually bring comments in the morning like, "playing 'tents' again?". Back on the music thread (sorry Mike, it was Pabloh's fault), over New Year we were larking about with Singstar (PS2 kareoke thang). One of the most difficult songs to sing to was 'Walking In Memphis' (Marc Cohn) - and that had strange comely effects on my missus. Mind you, it was probably more to do with my superb singing Or the lager.
pumpdoc 2 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Is that a song all about Hackett resentment? I think that Otis Redding takes some beating when it comes to romantic music. I just adore 'Since I've Been Loving You'. It is a heart achingly beautiful piece of music that brings any woman to her knees (advantageous if you are stood). And on not such a serious note, two pieces of crude music by Frank Zappa spring to mind when thinking of the complete opposite of romantic music. One is 'Dinah-Moe Humm' (a song about a woman who doesn't believe any man can make her orgasm) and 'Ms Pinky' (a song about a rubber sex toy). Women will hate both pieces. I think they are rip roaringly hilarious; I couldn't say where she's coming' from, But I just met a lady named Dinah-Moe Humm She stroll on over, say look here, bum, I got a forty dollar bill say you can't make me cum (Y'jes can't do it) She made a bet with her sister who's a little bit dumb She could prove it any time all men was scum I don't mind that she called me a bum, But I knew right away she was really gonna cum (So I got down to it) I whipped off her bloomers'n stiffened my thumb An' applied rotation on her sugar plum I poked 'n stroked till my wrist got numb But I still didn't hear no Dinah-Moe Humm, Dinah-Moe Humm Dinah-Moe Humm Dinah-Moe Humm Where's this Dinah-Moe Comin' from I done spent three hours An' I ain't got a crumb From the Dinah-Moe, Dinah-Moe, Dinah-Moe From the Dinah-Moe Humm Got a spot that gets me hot, ow! An' you ain't been to it (No no no no!) Got a spot that gets me hot, ow! An' you ain't been to it (No no no!) Got a spot that gets me hot But you ain't been to it (No no no no no!) Got a spot that gets me hot But you ain't been to it 'Cause I can't get into it Unless I get out of it An' I gotta get out of it Before I get into it 'Cause I never get into it Unless I get out of it An' I gotta be out of it To get myself into it (She looked over at me with a glazed eye And some bovine perspiration on her upper lip area And she said . . . ) Just get me wasted An' you're half-way there 'Cause if my mind's tore up, Then my body don't care I rubbed my chinny-chin-chin An' said my-my-my What sort of thing Might this lady get high upon? I checked out her sister Who was holdin' the bet An' wondered what kind of trip The young lady was on The forty dollar bill didn't matter no more When her sister got nekkid an' laid on the floor [ Lyrics found at www.mp3lyrics.org/VGn ] She said Dinah-Moe might win the bet But she could use a little ______ if I wasn't done yet I told her . . . Just because the sun Want a place in the sky No reason to assume I wouldn't give her a try So I pulled on her hair Got her legs in the air An' asked if she had any cooties on there (Whaddya mean cooties! No cooties on me!) She was buns-up kneelin' BUNS UP! I was wheelin' an dealin' WHEELIN' AN' DEALIN' AN' OOOOH! She surrender to the feelin' SHE SWEETLY SURRENDERED An' she started in to squealin' Dinah-Moe watched from the edge of the bed With her lips just a-twitchin' an' her face gone red Some drool rollin' down From the edge of her chin While she spied the condition Her sister was in She quivered 'n quaked An' clutched at herself While her sister made a joke About her mental health 'Till Dinah-Moe finally Did give in But I told her All she really needed Was some discipline . . I'll never forget seeing this one performed live circa '
Autumnpuma 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 "Regrets" by Anthony Phillips. I found the lyrics: *** Regrets, yes I have many, but none so great as spurning your love. For how sweet, how sweet your love would be As fierce as fire, as tender as dew. So let the rain fall Crashing on me And blind my eyes for the love I can't feel. Take a sound, don't you wait, don't be hurried Make a sign, don't be late, don't you worry now. Sometimes, I would have you close to me and take the path that leads to the sea. In the dark our eyes would meet at last and on your lips, the words I must flee. So let the rain fall Crashing on me And blind my eyes for the love I can't feel. Take a sound, don't you wait, don't be hurried Make a sign, don't be late, don't you worry now. So let the rain fall Crashing on me And blind my eyes for the love I can't feel. Pulling out while the doubts loom above me Shouting out in the dark for you to love me Cutting life from the hopes of an outstretched hand Regrets, our secret cemeteries, where loves and loss are silently lain, The dream is fading faster now, and soon you'll skip beyond my recall *** Thanks Russ. A very powerful song that fits my state of mind right now. It's not on iTunes, so after work I'm off to the Borders music to hunt for it.

Medilloni 6 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 Thinking out loud (common excuse for backtracking later) What is romantic music? I mean that what I (and I'm sure many of us) have seen in music evolution is fantastic, like if you were at a punk gig in 19*lost my voice*, some of the girlies then were blown away in a turned on, 'let's have kids NOW' kinda of way to music that you banged heads to, but still got all the magnets working. Fast forward the clock on a wee bit and a lot of what we might call 'soft California Rock' gets all the juices going, some great sounds re-emerging, re-constituted, but still innovative and great fun, but certainly enough to get two bods dancing/snogging/frictionating. Another end of the spectrum could be, the kids are in bed, a great classical piece (no, not a reference to a part of my bod) is blurting out whilst the sweet 'n sour' pork is looking ready to serve, when your partner walks in only to find a bloke-type is suddenly attractive - obviously due to the cullinary skills and choice of motivational music. So, does romantic music depend on the mood, time, age, 'the moment'? Is great romantic music like a simultaneous orgasmatron - everything has to be 'just so'? Please discuss, and I'll watch, I like to do that
Dawn 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2008 This is the perfect song for me We'll do it all Everything On our own We don't need Anything Or anyone If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? I don't quite know How to say How I feel Those three words Are said too much They're not enough If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life Let's waste time Chasing cars Around our heads I need your grace To remind me To find my own If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life All that I am All that I ever was Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see I don't know where Confused about how as well Just know that these things will never change for us at all If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? Here's a lovely ditty from his Almum 'The Geese And The Ghost' and features a vocal from Phil Collins. Gives a good impression of where Genesis could have gone without the arrival of Steve Hackett. http://www.progarchives.com/mediaPlayer.asp?bandId=

HandyNZL 1 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 18th Floor Balcony by Blue October I close my eyes and I smile Knowing that everything is alright To the core So close that door Is this happening? My breath is on your hair I'm unaware That you opened the blinds and let the city in God, you held my hand And we stand Just taking in everything. And I knew it from the start So my arms are open wide Your head is on my stomach And we're trying so hard not to fall asleep Here we are On this 18th floor balcony. We're both flying away. So we talked about mom's and dad's About family pasts Just getting to know where we came from Our hearts were on display For all to see I can't believe this is happening to me And I raised my hand as if to show you that I was yours That I was so yours for the taking I'm so yours for the taking That's when I felt the wind pick up I grabbed the rail while choking up These words to say and then you kissed me... I knew it from the start So my arms are open wide Your head is on my stomach And we're trying so hard not to fall asleep Here we are On this 18th floor balcony... We're both flying away. And I'll try to sleep To keep you in my dreams 'til I can bring you home with me I'll try to sleep And when I do I'll keep you in my... dreams I knew it from the start So my arms are open wide Your head is on my stomach And we're trying so hard not to fall asleep So here we are On this 18th floor balcony, yeah I knew it from the start My arms are open wide Your head is on my stomach No, we're not going to sleep Here we are On this 18th floor balcony... we're both.. Quiet One 15 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 That convinced me of posting the translation "Oleo de una mujer con sombrero" ("Painting of a woman with hat") A woman has just missed to know the ecstasy and dust. She just missed this beautiful madness her brief waist under me. She just missed my way of making love, she just missed my footprint on her sea. I see a flickering light and promises to leave us in the dark. I see a dog barking at the moon, with another figure that resembles me. I see more: I see that she didn't found me. I see more: I see that she got lost. An ineffable woman flying away like a seagull, and I promptly dry up my boots, blaspheme a note and turn off the clock. Love might as well be carfeul for I can sing its song. Cowardice is a matter of men, not of lovers. Coward loves never become love nor stories, they just stay there. Nor memories could save them, nor the best speaker could spell them. A woman with a hat like a painting from old Chagall corrupting me to the fear's core, and me, being not good, started to cry. But then I dried for me, now I cry for seeing her die. (Believe me, in Spanish it is infinitely more beautiful) Listen, tovarisch.
