Britain’s Jolyon Palmer could be crowned GP2 Champion this weekend when the Series visits Russia for the first time.

The DAMS driver is currently 41 points ahead of Felipe Nasr and 67 points clear of Stoffel Vandoorne with just two rounds of the championship remaining.

A driver can score a maximum of 48 points from a GP2 weekend meaning Palmer, who has finished in the points in every race this year, needs to score just eight points more than Nasr in Sochi to be out of reach of the Brazilian.

McLaren protégé Vandoorne’s slim title hopes will also be over if the Belgian fails to score 29 points more than Palmer.

“I’m looking forward to my first trip to Russia and driving a new track in Sochi,” said Palmer.

“The track will be new for everyone so getting up to speed will be important in the free practice session. At the moment I don’t know what to expect so I’m looking forward to getting out there to find out!”
