McLaren to switch from Honda to Renault engines from 2018

Move expected to be made official at Singapore GP

McLaren will switch from Honda to Renault engines from the 2018 season, sources have confirmed to Sky Sports.

The move is expected to be made official at this week's Singapore Grand Prix, live on Sky Sports F1.

The team have endured three wretched seasons under Honda power, failing to record a single podium finish.

But the change of engine supplier should now mean two-time world champion Fernando Alonso stays at McLaren next season.

Honda are set to remain in F1 by supplying Toro Rosso with Carlos Sainz poised to move on loan to Renault as part of the French engine manufacturer's agreement to supply McLaren instead of Toro Rosso next year.

However, sources have told Sky Sports it is unlikely Sainz will replace under-pressure Jolyon Palmer, who has yet to score a point in 2017, this year.

Palmer himself expects to see out the full term of his deal with Renault until the end of the season.
