McLaren team boss, Zak Brown has issued a 'hands off' warning to their F1 rivals regarding Fernando Alonso.

It is widely reported that Alonso could leave McLaren at the end of the season, as his contract comes to an end.

A number of top teams, including Ferrari are interested in signing the Spaniard for 2019.

Brown is desperate to keep Alonso with McLaren - but says even if the Spaniard leaves he could still race for the constructor in other events.

“We’d like to have Fernando in our racing team for as long as he wants to drive,” Brown said.

“I think he’ll continue driving beyond his Formula 1 career, and so if we’re in other forms of motor racing, then of course we’d love to have Fernando in our car."

The former world-champion is keen to become the second man ever to compete the Triple Crown and he only needs to add the Le Mans title to his Monaco Grand Prix and Indy 500 wins to do so.

The World Endurance Championship is difficult but Brown has hinted that McLaren could join the competition by the 2020/21 season.

“McLaren has a long history in additional forms of motorsport whether that was Can-Am, IndyCar, we’ve won Le Mans, and so that is something with the new regulations coming out for World Endurance,” he added.

“But I think what’s exciting is trying to go to Le Mans to win outright. That’s the highest value for a racing team.”

“We’re participating in those meetings and reviewing what that looks like.
