WATCH: Boullier admits McLaren won't win with Renault

Eric Boullier took part in what might be considered a very cagey press conference on Friday after practice in Paul Ricard. The McLaren racing director was pressed on recent rumours that the team were rewarding employees with Freddo chocolates as they continue to underperform.

Asked by the Daily Mail several times if he would resign or even expect to be in the job by Silverstone, a flustered Boullier responded by confirming he would be staying in his role and working towards fixing McLaren's troubled season.

What fans might not have enjoyed hearing was Boullier's admission afterwards that McLaren didn't stand a chance of winning a championship with Renault engines, affirming Red Bull boss Christian Horner's views that you would need to be a works team to enjoy such success.

It prompts the question as to why McLaren left Honda if they felt that a move to Renault wouldn't lead them to championship titles.

Honda had provided free engines to the team and covered Fernando Alonso's contract, so with every disappointment and fracture the team go through, questions will continue to be asked as to whether Boullier is the man to build the team back to where they need to be.

A tumultuous time to say the least for the Woking-based team. Christian Horner seems to be enjoying it!
