Sebastian Vettel believes that this season is a "better year" for his Ferrari team than it was last season for the Italian side.

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel is currently leading the way in the drivers' standings, as the German moved eight points in front of Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton following his highly-dramatic Silverstone win last weekend.

Vettel believes that he has much of a better opportunity this year with Ferrari than he did last year.

"We had a better car in 2017 from the start of the season," Vettel claimed to Motorsport-Magazin.

"We had good results, but this year the car has more potential.

"We did not get everything out of it here and there, but I feel that we can continue to develop everything."

Towards the end of the 2017 season, Ferrari made many mistakes and consequently handed Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton the title.

However, this season - so far, the teams have alternated in power.

One week, Mercedes will be the strongest and get the maximum result, whereas the next, Ferrari will dominate.

Ferrari lead the way at the moment - with 20 points the gap between them and Mercedes.

Talking about last season, Vettel added: "We were so weak in the end because the Ferrari was not strong enough to fight against the Mercedes, so we finally left the most points."
