Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul has admitted he has been impressed by just how much Ferrari has been able to develop their power unit. The Italian team have not only caught Mercedes but lead them in the constructor standings after years of lagging behind the leading team.

Speaking to Motorsport.com, Abiteboul said he was impressed by how much their rivals had been able to gain on the leading teams and that it was beginning to stand out as to who was doing the best job on the grid in 2018.

"I'm just impressed by our competitors.

"I'm impressed by what we are doing, but I'm also impressed by what they are doing, because it's a fact that the gap is not really reducing. What we are doing is just allowing us to keep that gap.

"I do think Ferrari in particular has made an important step for the past few races, with its works team and also its customer teams. It's very visible, and we have to factor that into what we are doing, and to the priorities that we put.

"We have to keep on delivering what we're supposed to deliver on power."

Renault looks to be locked in a battle with Haas for the best of the rest in F1, with both teams fighting over fourth place in the constructor standings. Whilst Renault currently hold onto the position, Haas has been catching the French outfit in the last few races. An impressive double points score in Austria closing up the gap by a fair amount during the tripleheader.
