Magnussen pleased with practice pace yesterday

Kevin Magnussen says he was happy with yesterday’s result at the Hockenheimring. The Haas driver finished inside the top eight confirming the American team are going to be competitive this weekend.

The Dane was just over a second off the pace from the two leading Red Bull’s. But more importantly for them, half a second faster than main rivals Renault. The battle for the ‘best of the rest’ could heat up again later today and tomorrow.

“It’s a good track. I’m enjoying driving here and it went well today,” Magnussen said in an interview on the chequered flag.

“We’ve been happy with our day. We need to look into finding a bit more pace on the long run, on high fuel, but low fuel looks to be very competitive. It’s a pretty low-grip track, so the car does a lot of things like you do have a bit of understeer, and you do have a bit of oversteer.”

Conditions were hot during the practice sessions and therefore the tyres started to blister badly. But with cooler conditions expected today, Magnussen isn’t worrying about this potential factor.

“Degradation is high because the temperatures get very hot - we’ll work on that and, hopefully, make some steps, also I think the weather is going to be a bit colder the next few days, so it might not be such a bit problem.”
