Max Verstappen will line up in fourth for tomorrow's German Grand Prix but he felt that pole could have been possible if the German weather had not improved from practice three.

Speaking to Ziggo after qualifying, The Dutchman said he felt he had the car and set-up to put the lap in that would have earned him pole position against the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas.

“The car is performing well," he said.

“Till now we are lucky with how much we are losing on the straight, only three or four tenths. It's still quite a lot, but luckily we can make up for the loss in the final sector.

“We haven’t been able to do many laps on the softs, but the feeling was there and regarding the lap times we were close enough.

“Whether it’s enough, I don’t know, but in any case, it’s much better than Silverstone.”

Verstappen told Ziggo before qualifying that he thought if the rain continued then Red Bull would have been close to pole position.

“If it rains, we have a good chance to get pole. If we are already doing so well in the final sector, in the rain that should also work out well. I am confident of that. In the dry it will be a completely different story of course if we want to get pole.”
