Lance Stroll believes that even with an experienced driver in the team, Williams' situation wouldn't be any easier to fix. The 19-year-old is the more experienced driver, with rookie Sergey Sirotkin alongside him in the other car, replacing Felipe Massa who retired last season.

Williams is currently in one of the worst positions the team has found themselves in in their long history in Formula One, last in the championship and struggling to score any points, major sponsors leaving the team with investment from Stroll increasingly likely to vanish when he moves to the new Racing Point Force India team.

The Canadian believes that even with an experienced driver in the race seat, Williams' troubles wouldn't be fixed in an instant.

“I think I have answered that question a few times this year, I wouldn’t say so,” Stroll told MotorsportWeek about Massa being crucial to the team's success.

“Generally we are struggling in different areas this year and it’s been since day one with how the car has been behaving and the development throughout the year so I would say we are facing other challenges this year.

“If I take for example for McLaren, I am not in a position to comment on what they’re doing but if you look at Alonso, he has a lot of experience and (in Belgium) they were struggling the same way we were.

“We were almost the same pace in qualifying so you could say the same about them.

“I am just putting an example, I am not commenting in any way about what they’re doing as I am not in a position to do that but that in my eyes says it all.”
