Gasly: "I've been wearing lots of clothes"

Pierre Gasly has never raced on the Singapore circuit before, but he believes that it is a track that will suit him. Gasly was called up to the Toro Rosso team at the race after the Singaporean Grand Prix, replacing Daniil Kvyat.

The Frenchman is in his last few races for Toro Rosso before he joins up with the senior Red Bull team, replacing the Renault-bound Daniel Ricciardo.

Gasly is in good form recently, scoring points at both the Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix, although he could only manage 14th last time out in Italy, albeit on a track that does not suit Toro Rosso’s car.

The 22-year old believes that the twisty nature of the track will play into the team’s hands, who have a power disadvantage to most teams given their Honda engine, which Red Bull will take on next season.

Gasly said: "Even if I've never driven the track, looking at the layout, I can see it's the sort of circuit I like, where you can get into a rhythm with a lot of corners.

“It turns a lot and it's very technical. We knew the last two races in Spa and Monza were going to be complicated but, on paper, Singapore should suit our car a bit better. I'm looking forward to seeing how we go.”

Gasly also spoke about the heat that the drivers will experience at the circuit: “I've been training for the heat, wearing lots of clothes and sweating a lot, making sure I felt much too hot and I will be doing that sort of training right up until the weekend, as well as spending time in the sauna.”
