Charles Leclerc believes that his performance during the Singapore Grand Prix was "close to perfect". The Monegasque driver finished an impressive ninth having started outside of the points in 13th position.

Adding two points to Sauber's championship tally, the team now sit on 21 points in the constructor standings whilst Leclerc sits in 15th on 15 points after 15 races.

“What a race – it was quite close to being perfect,” he said.

“We had strong lap times, and the balance of the car felt good from the beginning to the end. We made a great recovery this weekend, after having a weaker race pace on Friday.

“With our strategy, we were able to fight our way to the front of the midfield and finish in the points again. Achieving this after the past few weekends feels good and shows our potential.”

Leclerc started on the ultrasoft which allowed him to run a long first stint and leapfrog those who had to pit in the top ten who started on hypersofts. With his rivals out on fresh rubber but caught in the notorious Singapore traffic, Leclerc executed an overcut and went on to put in a solid drive including a picture perfect pass on Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly, granting a preview for next season as the two will be making the switch to the top teams in Ferrari and Red Bull respectively.
