Max Verstappen: Singapore showed that our car is the best on the grid

Max Verstappen: "Singapore showed that our car is the best on the grid"

Max Verstappen has sent a warning out to the rest of the field about the car that Red Bull will bring in future seasons. He claims that Singapore proved that Red Bull have the best chassis and set-up out of any of its competitors. It's clear Verstappen can't wait to receive the Honda engine.

"If you look at Singapore, I think we clearly had the best car on the grid. The hope is that from next season we can go a better way and get the whole package working," the Dutchman explained to his fans in Groningen.

The Renault engine is, without a doubt their major limitation. The 20-year-old Dutch flyer finished the race in second while team-mate Daniel Ricciardo took the chequered flag in sixth.

Verstappen did warn his 'orange army' that 2019 may well be a difficult year when Red Bull first works directly alongside Honda. But he expects all problems to be ironed out ready for 2020.

"In 2019 it will be a bit difficult, I think, but I really hope that we will have a chance in 2020," Verstappen added.

"In addition, Honda also has the same mentality that we are looking for. They also really want to win. They also have a much higher budget, which means they can do more. You can also see that in the results of the tests they carry out."

As already announced by Red Bull, Pierre Gasly will drive alongside Verstappen next season. Gasly joins to form one of the youngest partnerships F1 has ever seen. But Verstappen is confident this won't hamper anything.

"I can find it very well with Pierre, so I think they have taken that into their choice for next year. Fernando Alonso was certainly not an option and Pierre fits well within the team," Verstappen concludes.
