Williams reserve driver Robert Kubica still remains hopeful of securing a seat in Formula One next season, as the one-time Grand Prix-winner met with his Polish sponsor PKN Orlen to discuss his options.

Kubica made his way back to F1 this season after a long period of recovery from his horrible rally-crash back in 2011, but only got the job as a reserve driver at Williams as he didn't have as much financial backing as either Lance Stroll or Sergey Sirotkin

PKN Orlen, Poland's major oil refiner and petrol retailer, released a press statement regarding the rumours around Kubica and his potential chances of returning to the grid next season.

“In connection with media stories regarding the involvement of PKN Orlen in sponsoring Robert Kubica, we would like to inform you that at this stage it is too early to talk about potential cooperation or provide any details," it reads.

"At the same time, we confirm that a meeting between PKN Orlen Management Board executive chairman, Daniel Obajtek, and the driver took place.

"It was aimed at discussing the potential of motorsport development from various perspectives, which for many years have remained in the circle of strict interests of PKN Orlen.”

So that confirms that a meeting did take place. Last season, Kubica could offer 'just' $10 million to get a seat, which was five million less than Sirotkin's camp put on the table.

With options at other teams running out, Williams seems like the only realistic options for the Polish veteran to get a seat, as there is still one up for grabs next to newly promoted Formula 2 driver George Russell.
