Ricciardo: "They're really throwing some uppercuts at me"

Daniel Ricciardo says his frustration feels as if someone is "throwing uppercuts" at him after a series of retirements. The Australian has just one more drive left for Red Bull before moving to Renault in the winter.

Ricciardo, 29, has had a problematic conclusion to the season after being forced to retire from a number of qualifying and race sessions. It seemed as if his problems ended with his pole position in Mexico, but even that was cancelled out with a DNF the following day.

To make the DNF even worse, a marshall damaged part of the turbocharger by spraying a fire extinguisher. Ricciardo explains to motorsport the full extent of his frustrations.

"I saw the replay [of the Mexico incident], they showed it on Friday just to add a bit of salt in my wounds!" said Ricciardo.

"And there was another statistic that I've had more DNFs this year than Lewis [Hamilton] in the last five years or something, so they're really throwing some uppercuts at me."

Ricciardo threw an uppercut himself in Austin as he made a hole in the wall. His last podium was in Monaco, just as team-mate Max Verstappen dug himself out of his own hole.

Ricciardo spoke in frustration after his latest DNF claiming he no longer wanted to drive the RB14. He's now keen to end the stint on a high in Abu Dhabi.

"We did everything we could, so I'm not upset about that. We surprisingly had a very fast car here, and the race was fun. I know we were better than fourth, but anyway, I've got one more chance with the team to get up there, so in Abu Dhabi, we'll give it our best," Ricciardo said.
