Max Verstappen was furious after his crash in practice in Monaco that he could have broke down Red Bull's Energy Station.

Verstappen crashed out in FP3 at Monaco, and was then ruled out of qualifying - eliminating his chances of a win at Monte Carlo.

The Red Bull driver went onto finish ninth in the race; whereas his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo achieved a famous win at the iconic circuit.

"It hurt me so much that after the race I had to just laugh at the pool in front of the camera," Verstappen told Formule1. "Then you see Daniel jumping into the pool because he won and you have to laugh. I could break off the entire Energy Station. I just didn't show that.

"From the inside, there was a lot of pain. I've also had that feeling with karting a couple of times, but never in Formula 1. That you really throw the victory, so to speak, in the trash. It felt exactly like that. I think that sometimes I need it: to reset. I needed that after Monaco.

"Perhaps Monaco was also necessary," he added. "After that, I wanted to show something; it is not possible to do that later."

Verstappen will be aiming for Monaco glory in 2019 - but the 2018 winner, Ricciardo will be aiming to produce a huge surprise with his new Renault team.
