Red Bull driver Max Verstappen thinks his now-former teammate Daniel Ricciardo will miss his old team during his new adventure at Renault, as it will likely prove to be a downgrade in terms of pace on the short term.

Verstappen and Ricciardo have been partners at Red Bull ever since the Dutchman got promoted there ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix in 2016, swapping places with Daniil Kvyat at the time.

Ricciardo and Verstappen got along very nicely, as the duo had real chemistry off the track and seemed to get have some sort of friendship.

Asked by AD if he'll miss the Aussie, Verstappen didn't answer as expected, though.

"I will not miss it personally," the five-time Grand Prix-winner explained.

"It was fun and pleasant to have him as a teammate. It is not often that you have such a good relationship with someone. Maybe it will never happen again, indeed.

"But miss him…? I think that Daniel is going to miss what he had here."

Renault is certainly a step down from Red Bull as things stand, with the French team finishing fourth in the constructors' championship in 2018. Red Bull only finished one place ahead of them, but that doesn't tell the whole story. The Bulls won four races and had a driver standing on the podium more than half of the races, whereas Renault can only dream of those things as of now. With Ricciardo as one of their drivers, though, this could change for the better (from a Renault perspective).
