Brendon Hartley has recently been linked to a Ferrari developmental driver role however the Kiwi's father insists the story is nothing but rumours. Hartley was dropped by Toro Rosso after a difficult 2018 season and replaced by Daniil Kyvat.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Hartley was in the frame to be named as new development and test driver for Ferrari after Kvyat left the team to replace Hartley and Antonio Giovinazzi was confirmed as a race driver for Sauber, leaving the role at Ferrari in the process.

“It’s just rumours,” Bryan Hartley told Newshub.

Hartley has signed on with Porsche as part of their factory driver programme but his contract does leave an option open to return to Formula One should an opportunity arise.

“I would love to tell the story one day,” he explained to Newstalk ZB.

“The politics I don’t enjoy. It took me some time to get used to the extra media attention.

“What I will say is Formula One is very complicated, there’s a lot of money involved, politics and some of the reasons why drivers stay or leave isn’t always in your control or of reasons for pure performance.

“In any case, I left the paddock with my head held high. I knew I’d given it my best shot this year. I knew that I’d stepped up to the plate when I needed to.”
