Both parties have been regular nominees for the Laureus Awards, which are held each spring, and have once again received recognition through nominations for the 2019 edition.

Hamilton has been nominated for the World Sportsman of the Year Award, and will be gunning to win the title for the first time against tennis grand slam winner Novak Djokovic, long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge, basketball star Lebron James, as well as two footballers: FIFA World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe and Ballon d'Or winner Luca Modric.

Mercedes will be looking to defend its World Team of the Year award from 2018, going up against France's FIFA World Cup squad, the European Ryder Cup team in golf, basketball's Golden State Warriors, the Norwegian Winter Olympics team, and Real Madrid, which won football's UEFA Champions League for a third successive year in 2018.
