McLaren CEO Zak Brown has revealed him and his team are "anticipating a good car" in 2019 - with the side set for another shot at returning to the top row of the Formula 1 grid.

McLaren will be continuing their attempt to return to what they once were not that long ago when the new season begins.

Their 2018 ended with them finishing sixth in the constructors' championship - with the Woking team using Renault power unit for the first time.

There's been plenty of changes and alterations to the McLaren hierarchy - including ex-Porsche LMP1 boss Andreas Seidl - who has been hired to control the team's F1 operation.

"We're anticipating a good car," Brown insisted to Crash.net. "The off season development has gone according to plan but you ultimately don't know what the competition has been up to and the competition is tough and is getting tougher.

"We need good feedback from them (new drivers Carlos Sainz Jr and Lando Norris) - this will be a much different car to 2018. Their feedback is excellent.

"We want them to race the field hard. Naturally, team-mates race each other hard but they do get on and are good guys and for us to move forward as a team we need them both bringing back the cars and the points. They know that. That's the team goal."
