Gasly stands "no chance" of beating Verstappen in 2019

According to former F1 driver and now pundit, Robert Doornbos, Pierre Gasly has "no chance" of beating his new team-mate Max Verstappen when the two start the season at Red Bull Racing in 2019.

Doornbos is now a pundit in the Netherlands and he does not fancy the new Red Bull driver's chances whatsoever.

Verstappen had an excellent second half of the season for the energy drink team in 2018 after a slow start to the season - including multiple ill-judged decisions from the 21-year-old.

Doornbros once raced for Red Bull, as well as former team Minardi, and he believes if Honda and his former side are a good match - Verstappen will know "straight away".

"Max will know immediately how successful the new car can be, so I'll be curious to see his face after a couple of laps behind the wheel," Doornbros told Ziggo Sport. "If he is disappointed straight away, Max will not hide it. He'll immediately be punching the table with his fist."

Gasly has recently insisted he is not moving to Red Bull to be "the number two" driver - but Doornbros has told the Frenchman to "stay quiet" on the matter.

"Pierre said that he is not coming to Red Bull to be the second driver, but I think it's better to stay quiet," he added. "He has a chance to be in the top team, but at the moment for him, I think it's better not to attract too much attention. Because he has no chance next to Verstappen.

"Of course, there are not many drivers in the paddock who would like to be Max's team-mate. Lewis Hamilton can talk about it; but it won't happen."
