The new Formula 3, which will replace the old GP3, will feature tyres which have high levels of degradation. According to Mario Isola, this will make the car "a little harder to drive".

"We have developed a specific tire for the F3 because some of the characteristics of the car are different," Isola told the Spanish branch of Motorsport.com.

"We have a clear request from the developer to have more degradation. On their list [they ask] more degradation of the rear, to make the car skid more. We have worked on a new construction and also on new compounds to achieve this result. The tire is the same size because the size of the tire is the same, but in terms of construction and compounds, it's new."

The new FIA Formula 3 is a merge between European F3 and GP3. The engine and gearbox will remain the same as the GP3 car, but changes have created more aerodynamic options.

Pirelli's motorsport boss Isola believes the changes to the tyres will make the car harder to drive and make it easier to identify talent.

"[Drivers and teams] can work to have a configuration that helps with oversteer, but the goal is to make the car a little harder to drive at the end of the stint, that 's where the talent is in controlling the car," Isola added.
