Toro Rosso-debutant Albon: "First goal is to get comfortable in the car"

Alexander Albon will be counting down the days until his Formula 1 career kicks off next month in Melbourne.

On Monday, Toro Rosso revealed their 2019 challenger that Albon will be driving. Last year, the 22-year-old finished third in the F2 standings, behind to only George Russell and Lando Norris.

Despite doing so well, he insists he must first get used to the car changes as he plans his route forward.

"I am convinced that the learning curve will grow step by step. I have four days to test in Barcelona in advance of the first GP in Australia so I will make a few kilometres in advance. The most important thing is to become comfortable in the car. I do not want to put too much pressure on the preparations, but this is the chance for me to show what I'm worth," Toro Rosso's new F1 driver reported to the Italian branch of Motorsport.com.

"These cars are among the fastest ever. The power jump between F2 and F1 is noticeable."

Also on Albon's CV is some experience with Formula E. Having spent a considerable amount of time in the test garage, Albon believes the two engines have a lot of similarities.

"Because of my experiences with Formula E, I learned a lot. It is remarkable how big the similarities are between F1 and FE engines. Not necessarily that they work the same, but the way they save energy and other aspects; as a result, it looks remarkably similar," he added.
