Billy Monger will be part of the Channel 4 broadcasting team for the upcoming 2019 Formula 1 season.

The 19-year-old Formula 3 driver joins ex-F1 drivers David Coulthard and Mark Webber as part of Channel 4’s line-up for 2019, with presenter Steve Jones once again fronting C4’s coverage.

While UK viewers have lost full-season free-to-air TV coverage for 2019, C4 will broadcast all sessions from the British Grand Prix live, as well as providing a highlights package from each round of the campaign.

Monger will dovetail his yet-to-be-announced racing programme alongside his new TV role in 2019.

“I’m delighted to join the Channel 4 F1 team this season working around my own racing calendar,” Monger said.

“I’ve been watching the F1 coverage on TV since I was little and whilst my goal remains to be racing in one of the cars out on track one day, I am really excited to get broadcasting from the paddock this year.”

Monger made a remarkable comeback to single-seater racing last year after  having both of his legs amputated following a horrific crash during a Formula 4 race at Donington Park in 2017.

The Briton claimed four podiums and finished sixth in the 2018 British F3 standings, while he also took a pole position on his return to the Leicestershire circuit in September.

He was honoured with the Helen Rollason Award at the 2018 BBC Sports Personality of the Year show for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity. At the end of last year Monger said he was targeting a move into the all-new FIA F3 series for 2019.

Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment and Events, Ed Havard added: “This year’s F1 season is set to be thrilling as Lewis Hamilton continues to chase Michael Schumacher’s all-time record.

“Channel 4 will once again be the destination for F1 fans to enjoy the action free to air throughout the year, including live coverage of the British GP.

“I’m delighted that the young racing superstar Billy Monger will be joining our team alongside F1 legends David Coulthard and Mark Webber.  We’ve got a truly world class presenting line up for F1 on 4.”
