Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost believes Red Bull Racing will win races in 2019 with its new engine supplier Honda.

Tost's Toro Rosso side was powered by the Japanese manufacturer last season and the progress was enough for Red Bull to be persuaded.

His views of Honda also played a massive part in Red Bull's decision to switch from Renault to a brand new partnership.

"All the expectations I put into them, they delivered," said Tost to Autosport.

"And I am quite sure that they will close the gap to the top teams, and that RBR will be able to win races with them.

"And we will also gain a lot of advantages out of this cooperation."

Toro Rosso were sacrificed a lot last season, taking grid penalties multiple times so Red Bull could have a better shot at it in 2019.

Tost is confident it won't be a similar story this time around, though.

"In 2018 we knew from the very beginning that it is a development process which we have to go through and this is what we did," Tost continued.

"In the meantime Honda has reached a very high level on the reliability side as well as the performance side, and I don't expect that we will have so many additional engine changes this year."
