After winning in Sebring, Fernando Alonso has made it clear he will not be focusing on Formula 1 this year, but he will not rule out anything by 2020.

The Spaniard won the 1000 miles of Sebring last week with team-mates Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima and announced shortly after the race that the single-seaters are doing little to him at the moment.

"I haven't really followed Formula 1 in recent days. I don't know and to be honest, it doesn't really matter to me," Alonso told the Spanish branch of Motorsport.com.

"I have actually been on the sidelines since the test days. Of course, I am curious about the pecking order like any other fan, but the truth is that I don't necessarily have to be there. I am now in Sebring and 200,000 people are present, and I am working on it."

The 37-year-old is still keeping the Formula 1 return door open for a little while to come, however.

"I have not ruled out anything before 2020. When I announced my departure at the end of 2018, it was because I wanted to take on other challenges. I don't have a crystal ball to see what I will do in the future," he added.

"If interesting plans have been made for Formula 1 by 2020, then there is a possibility that I will return or in the next three years."
