The CEO of Mercedes, Dieter Zetsche has revealed the team plan on entering and controlling the Formula E scene, like they have done with Formula 1, expressing a desire to show Mercedes’ “technological superiority”.

Mercedes AMG F1 have dominated Formula 1 since 2014, winning the last five World Championships, four with Lewis Hamilton, with Nico Rosberg winning the title in 2016 following a dramatic race in Abu Dhabi. Mercedes’ nearest rivals Ferrari have not been able to match the Silver Arrow’s reliability a sign of the “technological superiority” Zetsche expressed.

Mercedes are yet to enter the up and coming series but the CEO revealed the two series will have equal importance.

"As far as our brand's medium-long term strategy is concerned, F1 and Formula E will be equally important,” Zetsche said in an interview on FormulaPassion.it.

“All competitions in which we can demonstrate our technological superiority are strategic for Mercedes.

Zetsche also paid tribute to the man that has overseen Mercedes’ dominance in Formula 1, Toto Wolff.

"After five years of victories one always fears that the full stomach syndrome can take over, but not there is a single Mercedes man who does not give 100% to the cause while remaining concentrated,” he added.
