Alfa Romeo Racing driver Antonio Giovinazzi has admitted it hasn't been easy for him adapting to Formula 1 after two years with hardly any racing, as the Italian remains without points in the 2019 season.

Giovinazzi's teammate Kimi Raikkonen has scored a massive 12 points for the Italian side already in three races, making him the sole reason they man the fourth place in the constructors' championship.

The 25-year-old Giovinazzi technically isn't a rookie, as he competed in two Grands Prix for Sauber back in 2017, but is still very inexperienced in F1, especially since he hasn't driven competitively for some time now.

“It’s just so many things that you can study and try to learn,” Giovinazzi explained to RaceFans when talking about the complexity of an F1 car.

“It’s not only the [hot] lap, you need to learn the warm-up, the out-lap, brakes, managing the traffic.

“It’s quite complicated so I need just time to learn these kinds of things. It’s not really easy to come after two years without racing. These are the things you need to improve and this is what I’m doing.”

Even though Raikkonen is carrying the team right now, Giovinazzi still draws inspiration from the former world champion, as having a driver of the Finn's calibre is a good thing to have in the garage next to you.

"I think to also have Kimi as a teammate is a good reference. When I stop in the garage, watch his data and try to see what I can improve.

[I’ll] just keep working like that and I think all the things will come together and then it will be just a lot more easy to have a good result.”
