Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes that Pierre Gasly is starting to find his feet at Red Bull after his switch from Toro Rosso for 2019.

The Frenchman has struggled since joining the team, crashing twice in pre-season testing and falling a long way off of his teammate Max Verstappen's pace.

However, Horner insists that Gasly has begun to make strides in the right direction.

"He's coming out of it," he said.

"I think, he's had a lot of support from the team and he's working with a good engineer, he has a good engineering team around him and he knows that we know he can do it.

"It'll just take time, and of course he has that huge barometer next to him who's one of the hottest properties in the pitlane."

Gasly was forced to retire from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with a broken driveshaft but had recovered from a pitlane start and was up to sixth place at the time of his failure.

Horner insisted that his race pace was evident and that so far this season he had been dealing with bad luck.

“I think while he doesn’t have results on paper, I think he’s pretty happy with his weekend," Horner explained after Baku.

“In Q1 he was quick, Friday was quick, in the race he drove a good race. It should’ve been an easy P6 from the pit lane which is a really strong drive.

“I think even more encouraging than this is his pace, you know certainly compared to Ferrari on the same strategy, he was definitely quicker than him. So I think a lot of positives for Pierre out of this weekend.

“Despite on paper having a horrible weekend where he’s been excluded three times and a DNF, actually his pace has been strong."
