Helmut Marko believes it will be hard for Red Bull to replicate Daniel Ricciardo’s 2018 Monaco win with Mercedes in such imperious form, describing them as “traction monsters”.

Ricciardo won from pole in 2018, his most recent victory in Formula 1 but he has since moved to Renault with Pierre Gasly stepping up to Red Bull. The race in the principality is often seen as a chance for Red Bull to get a good result but with Mercedes, in such good form, many are expecting a sixth one-two for them.

Marko isn’t optimistic of Red Bull emulating their 2018 race and expects it to be even harder for Ferrari.

“Although the Mercedes has the longest wheelbase, their advantage there will be even bigger, they’re true traction monsters and that’s the nuts and bolts of Monaco,” Marko said.

"We’ve found something, but it’s not enough."

Marko is even less confident of Ferrari's chances adding: “If Ferrari can not generate downforce and traction, they’ll probably only finish sixth or seventh in Monaco, but their weakness was evident in the last race in Barcelona, which is most reminiscent of Monaco, their engine is very good but they lacked downforce and extreme traction.”
