Kimi Raikkonen says he is more focused on helping Alfa Romeo make progress with its Formula 1 car than securing outright results in 2019.

The Finn made a surprise move to Alfa Romeo from Ferrari for this season having been largely expected to retire from F1 instead.

Despite a promising pre-season testing in Barcelona, Alfa Romeo has slipped down the pecking order of the midfield and now sits ninth in the constructor standings.

Raikkonen however is not worried about the team's form and is more concerned with making progress with the team's car, adding that despite a poor start there is a positive feeling within the team.

“I don’t have something that ‘oh we need to be here then I’m happy, if we are five points away from that, I need to be unhappy’,” he told Motorsport Week.

“They’re numbers. As long as we have the feeling at the end of the year that we’ve done all we can and we keep going forward, we can be proud.

“I think we started the year okay. I think we could have started better with the first races and then [Spain] was definitely difficult for us. That’s how it goes sometimes.

“We just need to look into our own things and not really look as much at what happens around."
