Racing Point driver Lance Stroll enjoyed an impressive comeback race at his home Grand Prix in Canada as the 20-year-old finished in ninth after starting 17th, and the youngster admits to "loving every minute of it."

Stroll has had an up-and-down debut season at Racing Point, scoring good points in Australia but often struggling to match the results of teammate Sergio Pérez afterwards. It looked to be the same in Montréal as Pérez out-qualified Stroll again, but the Canadian put in an excellent drive to overtake the Mexican and finish within the points.

"I just put all my emotions on the table, it was just balls out," the one-time podium sitter was quoted by Motorsport.com.

"I loved every minute of it, and was fully committed from lap one onwards. Some good overtakes, Giovinazzi, Perez down to the hairpin, Sainz for P9. It was a great race, and one I'm going to remember."

Stroll and Pérez were on different strategies, with Stroll going long on his first stint and Pérez on his second, to maximise the chance of Racing Point scoring any points at their first-ever home race.

The long first stint proved the better strategy, but that doesn't mean Stroll didn't have to work his tail off to end up where he did.

"Actually a lot of the job was done on track, pace, passing, aside from the start. That's what I'm really pleased about, we had to work for it, and we got it done. It's great, to do it at home is always special, and it's exactly what happened today.

"Everything considered, the engine blow-up really put us on the back foot, no running in P3, we took a hit in terms of performance for qualifying and the race, and we still managed to grab two points, which is fantastic."
