Toyota Gazoo Racing made it back-to-back Le Mans 24 Hours victories with Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima at the wheel of the number eight car.

The result means Alonso has added a World Endurance Championship title to his already impressive resume with the win, finishing on 198 points with his teammates.

In his final outing for the Toyota WEC team, the two-time champion shared driving duties with former Toro Rosso F1 driver and current Nissan e.dams Formula E driver Buemi and ex-Williams F1 driver Nakajima, who became the first Japanese FIA series champion as well.

Although the sister #7 car had been looking set for victory in the closing stages, two surprise punctures forced the #7 into the pits twice, relinquishing the lead in the process.

It is also the first time the Le Mans 24 Hours has been won twice in a single season, with the WEC 2018/19 super season including the race at the start and end of the season.
