Romain Grosjean feels he got the most out of his Haas car at the French Grand Prix but admitted "it was just not good enough" as he retired from the race on the 44th lap.

Grosjean qualified in P17 and his weekend didn't get any better for at his home Grand Prix as he was the only retiree from the race at Paul Ricard. The Haas team struggled all weekend as Kevin Magnussen finished down in 17th place.

Grosjean remains the lowest place driver to score points this season, only ahead of Kubica, Russell and Giovinazzi in the Drivers' Championship and he appeared downbeat following the race.

“I got the maximum from the car, but it was just not good enough," said Grosjean.

"Even though the balance felt okay, we were just very slow. We need to go back and analyze everything, try and understand it."

Grosjean admitted the team are really struggling and was really disappointed to retire from his home race despite it being the correct call.

"We’re just really struggling. It’s hard to retire in front of your home crowd, but we’ve saved some parts. We were far from the points anyway. I think it was the right decision.”
