Toyoharu Tanabe has confirmed Honda will be bringing a fourth version of their power unit for the 2019 Formula 1 season. The Honda boss didn't reveal when that engine will be introduced and become available for both Red Bull and Toro Rosso.

“We introduced the third spec before the season half. It is our intention to introduce the fourth spec sometime this season, but I am not going to tell when that is and every improvement brings the renewed power source," Tanabe reported at the press conference in Austria.

"The third specification would have mainly brought reliability, yet there was a small performance boost: “We could see progress in the data, as well as the simulator and the circuit. No big jumps, but we push to improve," the Honda man said.

Alex Albon will get his spec-3 engine this weekend after Toro Rosso avoided a double penalty for the French Grand Prix. Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat raced with the new engine last weekend but will need to take a penalty when spec-4 is introduced.
