Carlos Sainz took P6 despite "not feeling 100 percent"

Carlos Sainz had another strong Grand Prix for McLaren finishing in 6th position having qualified in 13th. The Spaniard has had a series of strong results this season and is currently the fastest driver not at one of the top three teams. However, success at Silverstone didn't come easy as there were some issues with his car.

“I must say this weekend the car and myself were not 100 percent, mainly in low-speed we felt we were struggling with the rear-end, so we know we need to improve the rear-end in low-speed,” Sainz was quoted by Crash.net.

“It meant we had to run a bit more wing, which meant we were slower on the straights and when the wind changed in the middle of the race and became a headwind, it meant we all of a sudden meant we were slow on the straights.

“I knew the Renaults would be quick, although in the first stint they struggled. I wanted to be on a one-stop and show the pace that I had, even without the Safety Car the Hard was such a good tyre that it would have taken us to the end easily and we could have stayed in a very strong position.”

Compared to the season McLaren had last year, the team should really be celebrating this result at Silverstone, the teams home Grand Prix. They will hope to be able to bridge the gap to the top three this season and be a genuine contender for podiums in the next few seasons.
