Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne has admitted he would consider an offer from a top three Formula 1 team.

At last weekend's final race of the season in New York, Vergne won his second Formula E title. The French racing driver has now admitted that a switch from the all-electric series to the petrol-powered phenomenon could be on, IF the right offer came in for Vergne.

"I think with everything I've learnt in the last years and how much I've improved, I think it would be fair to say that I could have a good chance in Formula 1," the DS Techeetah driver said to Crash.net.

"Or at least I would give it a good try. But the opportunity does not exist yet. We never know what the future is made of - maybe it will happen - maybe it will never happen. But it could be an option, it could be a possibility."

Vergne was then quizzed whether he would consider leaving Formula E if a top three team, such as; Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull, came in with an offer, and he replied: "I have been in a midfield team (Toro Rosso between 2012 and '14) when I was a young driver and I understand this is where you have to go and prove yourself, but when you are at my age, we don't have time anymore to prove yourself in a midfield F1 team.

"If I had - and it's a massive if - an offer from one of the top F1 teams then I would definitely consider it, but as I said, I don't receive anything."
