George Russell has said his first home-race at Silverstone was "a really great experience", and he was shocked by the immense support he received from the British crowd.

Russell had to settle for a P14 finish in Northamptonshire, but once again, the young Brit finished above his team-mate Robert Kubica. Lando Norris as well made his first home appearance in Formula 1, and like Russell, he failed to score any points.

Despite not scoring Williams' first point of the season, Russell thoroughly enjoyed his first F1 experience at Silverstone: "It's been a really great experience. I knew there would be a few supporters here but seeing how supportive the crowd have been all weekend has been a really special feeling.

"I just hope that in the years to come that I have something much better than a P14 to be able to give them."

Russell and Kubica, rather surprisingly perhaps, were able to keep up with the rest of the midfield during the opening stages of the race, but the reigning Formula 2 champion does not believe Williams have improved its FW42 over the course of the weekend.

"It was a nice race to drive because for whatever reason we could push like quali laps for every single lap," Russell explained. "So to drive flat out around a track as cool as this was nice, but the result is obviously not where we want to be."
