Robert Kubica to run with Williams upgrades in Friday practice at Hockenheim

Robert Kubica will drive with Williams updates during Friday's practice sessions ahead of the German Grand Prix. All being well, British driver George Russell is expected to get the upgrades fitted to his car for qualifying on Saturday.

The Williams cars have been parked at the back of the Formula 1 grid for the duration of the season so far. In recent weeks, both drivers have seemed positive about the future as they look to close the gap between themselves and the rest.

Ahead of the German Grand Prix, Russell is confident we'll see Williams close that gap. But he knows it won't be enough to overtake the likes of Haas and SportPesa Racing Point.

“I think hopefully this weekend will be the first time of the year where we see a small step forward, how much that will be not sure yet, but definitely some visible changes to the car for this weekend,” Russell is quoted by Motorsport-week.com

“Robert will be running the new stuff tomorrow, and I’ll be running the previous stuff to get a full back-to-back correlation to see the differences, then I’ll have it on my car for Saturday. It’ll be a step forward, I’m still sure we’ll be slowest still."

According to the reigning Formula 2 champion, Williams still has some more stuff in the pipeline to make them quicker still during the current Formula 1 season.

“If it reaches our targets we’ll still definitely be slowest this weekend, but we know we’ve got more to come later in the year."
