Formula 1 motorsport managing director Ross Brawn believes that “the summer breaks has probably come just at the right time” for Ferrari after they have failed to win a race so far this season.

The Scuderia have had their chances to win races this year, but it hasn’t gone their way.

Charles Leclerc had an incredible weekend in Bahrain, claiming his first ever pole position and was in great shape to take his first win up until engine trouble hit which dropped him to third.

Sebastian Vettel crossed the line first in Canada but due to a controversial moment in the race where a locked up and went across the grass but came back onto the track, nearly colliding with Lewis Hamilton was handed a five-second time penalty, dropping to second.

Ferrari couldn’t keep up with Mercedes or Red Bull at Hungary and Brawn feels the summer break couldn’t have come at a better time.

He said in his post-race debrief: "One knew from the track characteristics that this race would not suit the Ferrari car, but not to the extent we saw, especially in the race.
"The times from the third sector, where you need maximum downforce, speak volumes, as the car was so far off the pace of the Mercedes and Red Bulls.

"The summer break has probably come at just the right time because I'm well aware of how the pressure can build on Ferrari when things aren't going well.

"It won't do any harm to take a breather and recharge the batteries.”

The Brit does think that both drivers can bounce back at Spa and Monza, where the tracks may suit their cars a bit more.

"Then, once the racing starts again, the aero requirements of Spa and Monza could put Vettel and Leclerc right in the fight again, considering the aero efficiency of their cars,” he added.

"Ferrari badly needs a win, not so much for their championship aspirations, but as a morale booster, to prove that it has the potential to be a championship contender, an obligation it has always been under."

Vettel and Leclerc are currently fourth and fifth in the driver standing while Ferrari are 150 points behind Mercedes.
