"I really have no idea what Sebastian Vettel is doing!"

Former Formula 1 driver Giedo van der Garde has "no idea" what Sebastian Vettel "is doing" nowadays, following the latest mistake in a long-line of mess-ups for the four-time world champion.

Charles Leclerc has won the last two races in Belgium and Italy respectively and he now looks like the "number one" driver at Ferrari with Vettel still winless this season and driving like a shadow of the elite driver we've seen in the past.

"Leclerc was in top form last weekend and is naturally in a wonderful flow," van der Garde told Motorsport.com. "He will now be preferred by Ferrari, because I have no idea what Vettel is doing.

"Of course Ascari is a difficult turn, but it was estimated completely wrong. If you look at Vettel now, you also have the idea that he has given up. He still has a year contract, but he will have to find motivation.

"In his time with Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull, that didn't work either. It is really not a bad drive, but motivation is a thing in top sport. I don't think he wants to do anything for it.

"Leclerc, on the other hand, shows just how much he wants to win. Just like Max (Verstappen), he does not care how he wins, but that he wins. That can sometimes be a bit dirty, but it stays within the rules. It is nice to see such a young dog at work and I think the level that he achieves is exceptionally high."
