Aston Martin Red Bull Racing star Max Verstappen hopes a reserve grid won't become a reality in Formula 1 in the future, as the Dutchman thinks it would make the excitement of the sport "artificial" and "like American wrestling".

The FIA might experiment with the qualifying format next season and onwards, with a reverse grid and qualifying races being two alternative ways to change up the current 'shoot-out' format.

Many drivers and personalities within F1 have spoken out against this idea, and the 22-year-old Verstappen took the same stance, as he thinks excitement in F1 shouldn't be forced or fabricated.

"We had a meeting recently with Formula 1's owners," the seven-time Grand Prix winner revealed on Verstappen.nl.

"We spoke a lot about what we, the drivers, want. Nothing has been decided yet, but we don't want it to become like American wrestling, where everything is fabricated and fake.

"We don't want that and we made that clear. I like qualifying like it is now. I wouldn't know how to approach it differently."
