Daniel Ricciardo is an established Formula 1 driver having made his debut all the way back at the 2011 British Grand Prix. However, the Renault driver has been giving an insight into the early parts of his career.

Ricciardo has made 167 Formula 1 starts achieving 1028 career points, 29 podiums and seven wins across his spells with HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull and currently Renault.

The Australian has been giving an insight into how he adapted to life away from home and his family and he revealed he had to ask his mum whether he was allowed to do laundry during a thunderstorm.

"Until my departure, my mother took care of everything, she always wanted to take care of her family. I made my bed, but she did everything else," Ricciardo told Formula1.com

"One night, when I was in Italy, a thunderstorm passed over us and I finally had to do my laundry. So I called my mother because I was not sure if I could use the washing machine during a thunderstorm or had to worry about electric shock!

"She laughed at me and told me that I can of course wash but have to end the call because it costs a fortune."
