Lance Stroll believes he could have scored points from the United States Grand Prix but says "things didn't go our way". The Canadian started from P14 whereas his Racing Point teammate Sergio Perez started from the pits and went on to clinch a point.

On the opening lap, Stroll had some contact in the tight corners which lead to the team change strategies. Stroll drove on the hard tyres for 20 laps, and then on the soft tyres for 26 laps.

“It was a long afternoon and for sure I’ve had better days. It’s a shame because the car felt good and we know we can fight for points, but unfortunately, things didn’t go our way. I didn’t get the best start as I was squeezed and we picked up damage through Turn 1," Stroll said.

"The track was very bumpy on the outside of Turn 2 and I hit a bump, had a big snap of oversteer and fell down the field. Given our track position, the team tried to roll the dice and switched me to a two-stop strategy: we were showing good pace in the second stint, but we ran out of tyres towards the end of the race."

Racing Point now sit in sixth place in the constructors' championship and just one point ahead of Toro Rosso. With two races remaining in the 2019 F1 season, this is one of the midfield battles that'll draw attention in Abu Dhabi.
