All 10 Formula 1 team principles have been polled on who they thought were the 10 best drivers of the 2019 season, and unsurprisingly, Lewis Hamilton ranked number one as Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc completed the top three.

Although Verstappen and Leclerc both finished behind Valtteri Bottas in the championship, both 22-year-olds were ranked above the Finn as they did better given the equipment they were given. At least, according to the team principles.

The points system was the same as it is for an F1 race - the number one driver gets 25 points, the number two 18, et cetera.

With 11 wins out of 21, 2019 was Hamilton's best-ever season in F1 as the Brit clinched his sixth drivers' championship, putting him just one title behind record-holder Michael Schumacher.

Surprisingly, Carlos Sainz only ranked seventh despite his impressive season as the Spaniard led McLaren to their fourth place in the constructors' championship.

How F1 team principles ranked drivers in 2019

1. Lewis Hamilton 169
2. Max Verstappen 146
3. Charles Leclerc 124
4. Valtteri Bottas 68
5. Sebastian Vettel 58
6. Alexander Albon 57
7. Carlos Sainz Jr. 55
8. Daniel Ricciardo 49
9. George Russell 41
10. Lando Norris 38
